In 1928, a pharmacist by the name of Jim Howe developed Tums trying to treat his wife's indigestion. Commercial production for it first began in 1930 by the Lewis-Howe corporation. In 1978 the company was purchased by Revlon which was overseen by Norcliff Thayer. He later went in the direction of the Beecham Group in 1986 which eventually became GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
